Max Super Speciality Hospital Mohali- leading healthcare services provider of the region today launched the first of its kind clinic for women in the Tricity -Ambulatory Gynaecology Clinic, a Speciality Clinic completely dedicated to Women for treatment of all Gynaecological disorders. Ambulatory Gynaecology describes a method of providing care where women are reviewed and investigations are performed in an outpatient setting. In many cases treatment may also be organised at the same visit. The term “one stop clinic” may also be used to describe this model of care. A number of gynaecological conditions are suitable for ambulatory care.

At the clinic gynaecological problems being the most common health problems of women will be solved, which can be dealt with by minimally invasive laparoscopic and hysteroscopic  procedures. Addressing media persons during the launch of the Clinic, Dr Seema Wadhwa, Senior Consultant, Obstetrician, Gynaecologist and Endoscopy Specialist at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Mohali  said “Ambulatory Gynaecology is a new concept in the field of women’s health. It replaces the traditional method of OPD consultation and in- patient surgery with minimally invasive and day care procedures at one go. It shortens the care pathway, saves time and is cost effective for patients. Minimally invasive procedures require specialized technical skills and equipments that facilitate us to perform the surgery with the same precision as in  open surgery giving the same or better results.”

“Woman is the foundation of a family. The moment she falls sick, entire family gets disturbed. Worldwide 1 in every 3 women have their uteruses removed by the age of 60 yrs. Many times this is due to trivial reasons which can now be treated using minimally invasive techniques. Females suffering from abnormal bleeding, fibroids, ovarian cysts, pelvic pain, endometriosis, infertility, cervical cancer, uterine cancers, urinary problems and early pregnancy pain and bleeding will be especially benefitted at the clinic.

The clinic is laced to conduct treatment by three main modalities including  laparoscopy, hysteroscopy and colposcopy. “All these are minimally invasive and less painful but effective techniques in treating the most common gynaecological problems of women. It will save time and provide more convenience to patient and their families as less hospitalisation is required. Patient will be able to recover early, there would be minimal disfigurement of body shape after surgery and will save  resources of patients,” Dr Wadhwa revealed.

With laparoscopic procedures at the clinic, patients are spared from scars and disfigurement. Even for major surgeries like total uterus removal hospital stay is short from 24 to 48 hours and patient can resume normal routine within two days. Short term and long term complications of open surgery like hernia, wound infection, adhesions leading to chronic pain abdomen & difficulty during repeat surgery done at later date are absent in laparoscopic procedures. The technique of Hysteroscopy has an edge over the conventional blind D&C procedures conducted, which usually miss focal lesions like polyps, myomas, and even localised cancers in upto 50% cases. After hysteroscopy patient is discharged within a few hours and can resume normal routine the very next day.

Colposcopy,  is a special test done to diagnose  cancer cervix. Patients with abnormal Pap Smears are recommended this test. Majority of women suffering from abnormal foul smelling vaginal discharge, and itching will require this test.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ashutosh Sood, General Manager- Operations, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Mohali said “In today’s age of fast track services in every sphere of life, patients look for rapid access to healthcare facilities, fast track evaluation and minimally invasive surgical procedures for faster recovery and less morbidity. Ambulatory Gynaecology is a new way of looking at women’s health. "
