Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh today reiterated that Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann led state government was according top-priority to up-grade healthcare infrastructure so as to provide ultra-modern services to the people of the state. Accompanied by Member Parliament Sanjiv Arora, MLAs Daljit Singh Grewal, Ashok Parashar Pappi, Rajinderpal Kaur Chhina, Secretary Health Vivek Pratap Singh, Deputy Commissioner Surabhi Malik, and Director Family Planning Dr. Hatinder Kaur, the minister today visited urban community health centers located at Subash Nagar, Giarspura, Vardhman and District Hospital Ludhiana to review the progress of up-gradation projects.

Interacting with the media here at the local civil hospital, the minister said that an intensive drive has been initiated by the state government to provide state-of-the-art healthcare services at district hospitals at par with Patiala district hospital which has recently been upgraded by the government. He stated that the Civil Hospital will get a new emergency, ICU ward, and patient facilitation center which would set another milestone in the field of healthcare.

The patients will get all the necessary assistance at this facilitation desk where staff will take them to doctors concerned, he said adding that the record of the patients would be digitized at this desk which would be visible to doctors. He mentioned that the ICU would be functional within two months as the remaining works were being carried out at war footing.

The minister also informed that both the lifts at the local civil hospital would be made functional at the earliest as the directions in this regard have been issued to the officials concerned. Similarly, the new elevator would also be set up at the newly constructed building. Speaking on the up-gradation of urban community health centers, the Minister said that these centers would soon get specialist doctors so as to provide specialty services to patients.

Facilities like a basic life support system, minor surgeries, ultrasound, x-rays, general medicines, pediatric care, orthopedic services, cesarean deliveries, specialist diagnostics, etc. would be provided at these urban health centers so that the burden of civil hospitals can be reduced by providing the maximum healthcare services to people near their homes. Dr. Balbir Singh further added that nearly 1880 vacant posts would be filled shortly as a vacancy advertisement had already been issued by the health department.

Likewise, new posts would be created/sanctioned on a regular basis so that shortage of specialist doctors/staff could be plugged to further strengthen these urban healthcare centers, he said, adding that only referral patients with serious ailments would be treated at the civil hospital. Meanwhile, chairing a review meeting with the officials of district administration and the health department, the health minister also issued directions to form a four-member committee of the health officials at the district level to regularly review and monitor the progress of ongoing projects.

This committee will also take up management-related issues and take necessary action. Earlier, the Minister also interacted with the patients during his visit to urban health centers and expressed his satisfaction with the healthcare services being provided by the doctors.
