The government, led by Chief Minister Punjab S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, is continuously working towards making the state clean. Local Government Minister Balkar Singh stated this during the ceremony honoring 23 individuals who have made outstanding contributions to cleanliness. At the beginning of the event at the Municipal Bhawan in Chandigarh today, Minister of Local Government Balkar Singh and CEO of PMIDC Deepti Uppal awarded certificates of appreciation to selected Safai Mitras, community facilitators, sanitary inspectors, and junior engineers from Urban Local Bodies.

These 23 individuals were recognized for their exceptional performance under the Swachh Bharat Mission. Safai Mitras  go door-to-door to collect segregated waste and motivate citizens to segregate waste at its source, as well as to process waste at Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs). Community facilitators play a crucial role in segregating waste materials and sources.

They were awarded for their critical role in ensuring the proper functioning of waste recovery. Local Government Minister Balkar Singh further explained that sanitary inspectors were honored for their outstanding achievements in making Hola Mahalla at Sri Anandpur Sahib and 'Baba Ji Farid Agaman' at Faridkot free of single-use plastic. Junior engineers were recognized for their exceptional work in designing and constructing state-of-the-art solid waste management facilities.

Additionally, students from various schools participated in the Sustainability Leaders Program, and Urban Local Bodies were commended for their collective efforts to transform cities into cleaner, more efficiently managed places. The Cabinet Minister also awarded four fire service units within the state for their excellent performance.

Emphasizing the importance of their contribution to society, Balkar Singh encouraged the winners to continue their excellent work and urged others to join the campaign so that Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann's dreams of creating a 'Rangla Punjab' can come true.

On this occasion, PMIDC CEO Deepti Upal congratulated the awardees and encouraged them to continue their excellent services in sanitation. She also urged other Urban Local Bodies to participate more actively in this campaign.
