Government Degree College Ramgarh on Wednesday organized an awareness lecture on ‘Cyber Security and Cyber Threats’ as a part of the series of activities to be organized by the College during the ‘J&K Digital Week-2023’.

The activities are being organized by the NSS unit ‘Prabha’ and Department of Computer Application under able guidance and coordination of Prof. (Dr.) Geetanjali Andotra, Principal of the College.

Dr. Aditi Khajuria, Convener IQAC, said that Cyber security is important because it protects all categories of data from theft and damage. This includes sensitive data, personally identifiable information (PII), protected health information (PHI), personal information, intellectual property, data, and governmental and industry information systems.

The members of the organizing committee for the events to be held during the J&K Digital Week-2023 include Dr. Shamsher Lal, Dr. Rahul Kundal, and   Sunil Kumar.Sunil Kumar, Resource Person, delivered a detailed lecture on ‘Cyber Security and Cyber Threats’. In his presentation, he said that Cyber security's importance is on the rise.

Fundamentally, our society is more technologically reliant than ever before and there is no sign that this trend will slow. Data leaks that could result in identity theft are now publicly posted on social media accounts. sensitive information like social security numbers, credit card information and bank account details are now stored in cloud storage services like drop box or google drive.

Information theft is the most expensive and fastest-growing segment of cybercrime.  Dr. Shamsher Lal, NSS Program Officer and Coordinator, said that Cyber security is the state or process of protecting and recovering computer systems, networks, devices, and programs from any type of cyber-attack. Cyber-attacks are an increasingly sophisticated and evolving danger to your sensitive data, as attackers employ new methods powered by social engineering and artificial intelligence (AI) to circumvent traditional data security controls.

The faculty members present included Dr. Aditi Khajuria, Prof. Seema Sharma, Dr. Sandeep Kumar, Dr. Shamsher Lal, Prof. Risha Kumari, Dr. Ekta Rani, Dr. Rahul Kundal, Dr. Shivali Choudhary, Ms. Priya Sharma, and Dr. Paramjeet Kour.
