Review meeting on NTCP & COTPA held at Anantnag

A meeting to review the implementation of provisions of National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) and COTPA 2023 was held today under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Anantnag, Gulzar Ahmad, here.

Chief medical officer Anatnag gave a brief overview about the agenda of the meeting.Dr. Mir Mushtaq Nodal officer NTCP Kashmir gave a detailed presentation about the present scenario of tobacco prevalence in Kashmir division with special reference to Anantnag district. He also enumerated various sections of COTPA.

The ADC in his address stressed for strict implementation of COTPA in the district and directed for regular enforcement drives across the district. He said particular attention shall be paid around the educational institutions and asked for strict monitoring around schools and colleges.

He directed School and college authorities to come up with a list of violators of section 6 B so that action against them can be initiated as per law. He further directed the Information department to launch an aggressive IEC campaign against tobacco menace and to make people aware about its ill effects.SP (Hq) while speaking assured complete support and cooperation of the police department.

Chief Medical Officer Anatnag, Dr. M. Y Zagoo; Superintendent of Police (HQ), Deepika; Chief Education Officer Anantnag, Nodal Officer NTCP Kashmir, Dr. Mir Mushtaq; CEO Municipality Anantnag, District Health officer, Block Medical officers, District Information Officer, and other officers from various departments took part in the review meeting.
