District Administration Ramban, in collaboration with the District Social Welfare Department today organized a series of programmes and activities across the district to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

The main function was held in the District Administrative Complex Conference hall in which a large number of students, youth, civil society members, NGOs besides senior officers of District Administration participated.

Deputy Commissioner, Mussarat Islam presided over the function which was organized by the Social Welfare Department.Chief Medical Officer, Dr Kamal Zadu; District Social Welfare Officer, Rahul Gupta, besides other senior officers were also present on the occasion.  

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner urged the youth to lead the mass campaign against drug abuse and to sensitise children, particularly of adolescent age against the scourge.He also underlined the need to highlight the devastating impacts of drug abuse on the physical and mental state of those who succumb to peer group resistance.

He also laid emphasis upon the objective of organizing such programmes on a regular basis so that ill effects of drugs, its consumption and trafficking inculcate deep into the society for creating enough deterrence.

The Deputy Commissioner also flagged off Prachar Rath (Awareness Van) from District Administrative complex, which shall move across the district to sensitise the public of the drug abuse and its means and symptoms.The main features of today's programme were essay and painting competitions, educational skits, a Cultural programme,  sports activities and speeches by students.

The presentation of skit  by the girls of GGHSS Ramban was a show-stealer that enthralled the audience with its powerful message against drug abuse with focus on students and their vulnerability to fall victim to the adventure with drugs.   

The students and guest speakers   delivered valuable lectures which would help the society, especially youth, in preventing the spread of drug abuse and illicit trafficking in the district. While presenting the welcome address, the DSWO Ramban, Sh. Rahul Gupta briefed the participants about the importance of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. 

Later, he also administered a solemn pledge to the participants for taking initiatives to eradicate means of drugs from society.At the block levels, similar activities were carried out by the concerned SDMs and BDOs, in close coordination with the Social Welfare Department, Ramban

Similar programmes were also held  at Government Degree College Ramban and Ukhral to sensitise  students against the plague of drug abuse.The program culminated with the e launch of Nasha Mukt Panchayat campaign as well as plantation drive by Deputy Commissioner, Ramban.
