The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will launch a ‘Bijli Khojo’ campaign in Uttar Pradesh from Monday to July 1 against power cuts in the state. As part of the drive, AAP volunteers will go door to door and ask people to make videos whenever there are powercuts and post those footage and photos on social media and tag the Chief Minister and the state's Power Minister.
The party has also rejected the proposed changes in the Electricity (Rights of Consumers) Rules, 2020 under which there will be differential pricing for power during the day and night. AAP MP Sanjay Singh said that the party would fight tooth and nail against this amendment which would make power costlier at night, when everyone is at home and power demand goes up due to running of air conditioners, coolers etc.
He added that AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal was taking the matter up with all senior Opposition party leaders. A day after the campaign ends, the party will take out a ‘lantern procession’ on July 2.
