Health is a State subject and no such information is maintained centrally. However, in so far as three Central Government hospitals located at Delhi namely Safdarjung Hospital, Dr. RML Hospital and Lady Hardinge Medical College and Hospital are concerned, it is incorrect to say that large number of expensive and necessary equipment are reported to be lying idle/out of order in these hospitals. For these hospitals, monitoring of functional and non-functional equipments costing more than Rs.1 Lakh is done on monthly basis at the level of Directorate General of health Services. Repair and maintenance of these equipments is an ongoing process and is done expeditiously.
There is an equipment maintenance committee in all the above-mentioned hospitals. Complaints of any non-functional equipment are processed by this committee and all efforts are made to get the equipment repaired expediously. Expensive equipments are put under Annual Maintenance Contract/Comprehensive Maintenance Contract where applicable. The Health Minister was replying to a question in the Lok Sabha here today.
