Patiala , 09 Jun 2023

Dr. Baljit Kaur, Minister for Social Security, Women and Child Development, is pleased to announce the successful raid conducted in Patiala as part of the action month against child labour. The raid, carried out in collaboration with Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA), resulted in the rescue of 19 children from various areas.

Giving more information, Dr Baljit Kaur said that Out of the 19 rescued children, 9 were found to be below the age of 14, while the remaining 9 were adolescents. After thorough verification of their documents, legal actions and rehabilitation measures will be initiated to ensure their well-being.

Minister added that During the operation, a 14-year-old child, who was rescued from a motor repair shop, expressed a strong desire to become a Mechanical Engineer. Recognizing his aspirations, we have partnered with the NGO Human Rights Mission, who have graciously agreed to sponsor his education.

Dr Baljit Kaur express her gratitude to Bachpan Bachao Andolan, for his immense cooperation and support throughout this endeavor. Minister further said that Child labour is a grave violation of the rights and dignity of children, and our government remains committed to eradicating this issue from our society.

We will continue to work tirelessly to protect the rights and ensure the welfare of children across the state.
