Deputy Chief Minister, Mukesh Agnihotri presided over the review meeting of transport department on road safety here today and said that 10 days awareness campaign on road safety would be conducted soon.Apart from this stringent measures were being taken to improve the black spots, he said.

As per the survey by different agencies, as many as 147 black spots were identified out of which 117 were improved by the department and directions have been issued to fix up the remaining 30 such spots.Sh. Agnihotri said that after the setting up of the Road Safety Cell in the department, the road accidents have considerably declined.

It has been observed that many private buses from other states were plying in an unauthorized manner without paying taxes and proper registration. The department is working on this and will soon devise a legal mechanism of 'challan' of such buses which will be like five thousand for a day, Rs. 75 thousand a month and a penalty of rupees nine lakh for one year.

He said that this will add to the state exchequer by Rs. 10 crore or so. He directed the officers to keep a strict vigil on such vehicles plying without legal papers or registration within the State.  Sh. Agnihotri said that  Motor Vehicle Inspector will now also be authorized for challaning vehicles as well.

Deputy Chief Minister said that so far 21.51 lakh vehicles were registered in the State and 15.12 lakh driving licenses have been issued so far. He said that there were 381 driving schools imparting training.He said that 'Transport Nagars' would be set up in the state and the land for setting up the same has been transferred in the name of the department in Nadaun in district Hamirpur.  

A sum of Rs 16 crore will be spent on Inspection and Certification Centre at Baddi for vehicles.The Deputy Chief Minister said that a revised e-auction system would be implemented from 29th May, 2023 for the fancy numbers in the State.

Necessary directions were issued to officers and officials to work with dedication and sincerity and it has been decided to award the best performer as 'employee of the Year'  so that it could motivate others and pave the way to improve the work culture.R.D Nazeem, Secretary Transport, Anupam Kashyap, Director, Regional Managers from all over the State and other senior officers and officers were present on the occasion.
