To assess the local issues and listen to the grievances of the people, the District Administration Kathua today held Block Diwas at Community hall, Hiranagar which was presided over by Deputy Commissioner, Rakesh Minhas.

During the camp, the locals raised several demands including release of pending MGNREGA payments, compensation of crops, supply of good quality seeds, availability of minor minerals, protection work along nallahs, up-gradation of drainage system in Hiranagar town, fresh survey under Awas plus scheme etc.

Some other issues included replacement of damaged electricity poles and wires, filling of vacant posts in Revenue, Health and school education departments, early completion of border bunkers etc.

Chairman, BDC Hiranagar, Ram Lal Kalia  urged PRIs and officers to work in close coordination to expedite development works especially in the border belt of Hiranagar sub-division. He also highlighted the issue of renewal of gun license, repair of road stretch near Hiranagar morh by NHAI etc.

DDC Member Abhinandan Sharma highlighted the demand of crop insurance and installation of proper signages at diversion points on National highway for public safety.The Deputy Commissioner gave a patient hearing to all the grievances and demands put forth by the PRIs and concerned stakeholders. 

He assured them that all their issues and demands shall be taken with the concerned authorities for their timely redressal.While highlighting the objective of Block Diwas, the DC said that the programme aims to listen to public demands and issues at their doorsteps.

Responding to the issue of uncovered families under the Border Bunker scheme, the DC directed XEN PWD Kathua to draft a revised proposal and remove bottlenecks so that safety of good quality bunkers can be extended to frontline border dwellers.  

In response to the issue of Bovine smuggling, the DC assured that illegal transportation of bovine animals will be dealt strictly under law. CPO, Uttam Singh; PO ICDS; SDM Hiranagar and other district and sectoral officers were present during the event.

After the public outreach programme, the Deputy Commissioner chaired a meeting of concerned officers at PWD Rest house Hiranagar to discuss issues highlighted during the Block Diwas proceedings. 

He passed directions to the officers to redress all the genuine issues of the people before the next Block Diwas. Later, the DC also visited CHC Hiranagar where he inspected health facilities being provided to the patients. 

He also took a round  of OPD, Emergency and surgery wards and interacted with patients. He also enquired about the facilities and status of paramedics staff.Regarding the vacant post of Anesthetist in CHC Hiranagar, the DC directed CMO Kathua to address the problem at the earliest. He also lauded the hospital authorities for maintaining proper cleanliness in the hospital.
