Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal said that Sangrur has become the first district of Punjab to join the Green Zone in the campaign to make villages ODF Plus under Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural). Deputy Commissioner Mr. Jitendra Jorwal also congratulated the team working with commitment under the leadership of Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Varjeet Walia for this achievement.
Deputy Commissioner said that the cleanliness campaign has received a great response in many villages of Sangrur district. Jorwal said that there are 108 such villages in the district including Mandvi, Mangwal, Farwahi, Rai Dharana, Nurpura, Khanal Kalan, Majhi, Bakhtri, Bhadalwad and Punnawal where liquid waste management or solid waste management projects have been completed.
Deputy Commissioner said that these villages have attained the ODF Plus status. He said that after the inclusion of District Sangrur in the green zone under ODF Plus by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, the departmental teams have become more enthusiastic to complete the next phase of this mission.
Jorwal also congratulated XEN Panchayati Raj, Water Supply and Sanitation Department, all Block Development and Panchayat officials who played an active role in achieving this goal. Deputy Commissioner said that apart from this, funds have been received for solid waste management in 107 other villages of Sangrur district and for liquid waste management in 121 villages under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural).
He added that by adding funds of the 15th Finance Commission and MGNREGA, liquid and solid waste management would be implemented at ground level in these villages as well.
