In order to create awareness among general public with regard to their rights and responsibilities as a consumer, District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission Baramulla in collaboration with Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department Baramulla today organised an introductory cum awareness meeting at Dak Banglow Uri.

The camp was presided over by the President Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission Baramulla,  Peerzada Qousar Hussain and attend by the Assistant Director Food Baramulla Tariq Ahmad , Member of the Commission Miss Nyla Yaseen, , Tehsil Supply Officers of Uri and other Officials of the department. 

The President while speaking on the occasion said that the interest of the general consumers stands our first and foremost priority and emphasised that the objective of this meeting is to Create awareness among the officials in particular and the Public in general regarding their rights and responsibilities as a consumer.

While highlighting the importance of consumer rights, President DCDRC said the empowerment of the consumers has been accorded the highest priority by the government by enacting the Consumer Protection Act 2019, to protect against the marketing of products that are hazardous to life and property.

He also underlined that since consumer awareness is essential to help the Consumers to exercise their rights, the Govt, in this regard, has been conducting a wide multimedia awareness campaign titled Jago Grahak Jago through which Consumers can learn about the fraudulent practices and how to tackle them.

AD Food during the introductory meeting pointed out some major issues and problems faced by the consumers. while reiterating the rights as responsibilities of the consumers, emphasised that in case any of the consumer feels dissatisfaction about the purchase of any of the products or notices any unfair trade practices, they should approach the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission Baramulla for redressal of these grievances, as not to have accept subtend quality of products.

Other speakers also deliberated on the subject and said that the consumer needs to be informed about the quality, quantity, standard, purity and price of goods, so as to safeguard his interests against the unfair trade practices and services.
