Commemorating International Women’s Day, CGC Landran organised an awareness session on cancer and free mammography camp for women. The mammography camp was conducted by Sohana Hospital, in association with Nargis Dutt Foundation and Jeeto campaign.More than 100 women were screened in the mobile mammography bus by a team of specialists from Sohana Hospital.

Among the keynote speakers for the awareness session were Dr. Shweta Tahlan, Gynaec Oncologist, Gynaec Cancer Surgeon, Fortis, Mohali, Ms. Deepinder Shergill, Social and Sports Activist, Dr. Sonia Dhaka, Consultant, Medical Oncology Sohana Hospital, Opinder Kaur Sekhon, National Level Master Athlete, Dr. Ramandeep Kaur, Senior Gynecology Consultant & Obstetrician Specialist, Healing Hospital, Chandigarh, Ms. Gurleen Kaur, Journalist, Film Critic, Founder Ghaint Punjab Media Pvt. Ltd. and Mr. Mubarak Sandhu, social activist, motivational speaker. The session was attended by more than 400 students and faculty members of CGC. 

The speakers emphasised the importance of regular screenings in helping prevent and treat cancers. Dr. Shweta Tahlan highlighted how awareness is the key towards fighting and preventing cancer. 

She enlightened the audience on various types of cancers that commonly afflict women including cervical cancer, breast cancer, uterine cancer, ovarian cancer among others; spelling out common symptoms, screening and testing procedures she also underscored how vaccines such as HPV vaccines have a huge role in preventing cervical cancer. 

She also described how eating healthy, maintaining an active lifestyle, staying away from substance abuse, play an important role in preventing cancer.
