Kali Jotta Movie Review
Story & Screenplay
The movie starts with Wamiqa Gabbi (Anant) who is a student of law and then one day she comes back to her hometown and desires to meet her teacher Neeru Bajwa (Rabia) but she is not able to find her. Looking out for her she gets to know a series of events and eventually ends up finding a diary of Rabia in which she used to draw and write her emotions & feelings. From there she gets to know all about her love story with Satinder Sartaaj (Deedar) and every related incident that followed in her life. She tries to turn every stone to find her but no one tells her the full truth and what she is left with are some broken pieces of her identity. The student fights for Rabia to find her identity, but whether she achieves her mission or not and what happened with Rabia is disclosed in the entire movie.
From beginning to end the movie runs at a perfect pace and does not lose track. The screenplay is perfectly done. Though we saw back and forth in the story, it has been presented beautifully and intrigues the audience.
Writing & Direction
Coming to the film’s story and direction, then both writer Harinder Kour and director Vijay Kumar Arora garnered loads of praise. The script of the movie is so simple and beautifully written by Harinder Kour. A thought of highlighting the sensitive topic of society which gets overlooked deserves a voice. And to execute this story we needed a director with a vision and capability to understand the depth of the topic and we can surely say that Vijay Kumar Arora fits flawlessly there. Words could not possibly express what director Arora just accomplished. He has already proved his worth by giving a national award-winning movie (Harjeeta) earlier and again he has shown what he is capable of. He is excellent in every aspect and gives his career-best performance as a director.
Acting & Performance
The Queen of Pollywood has once again proved the worth of her title and has pulled off her career’s best performance. It was so mesmerizing to see Neeru as Rabia. No one could have done better than her. Neeru Bajwa has ticked all the boxes right. She did a character switch that was flawlessly done by her. She frequently makes you feel chills. Be it her joyous act or serious act, all we can say is that she is made for Rabia.
One can be overshadowed if he/she is sharing a screen with Neeru Bajwa but Wamiqa Gabbi (Anant) has proven her worth and made her presence felt. Not even a single second she bored her viewers and always came up with new wonders.
Though Satinder Sartaaj has got less screen space as compared to Neeru and Wamiqa in those few moments he has proven his skills. Moreover, the transition shown by him in the movie needs hats off. Sartaaj has not only made his name in the world of music but marked his place in acting too.
Nikita Grover who essays the role of Goldy and becomes Neeru’s close friend has an amiable character. Her impactful role and dialogue ‘Ikko ik zindagi mauj nal jeeyenge’ is a good best friend's tagline.
Prince Kanwaljit who was seen as Boota as always never fails to impress his fans. We saw the funny side of him but at the end of the film he just strikes an arrow of emotions that tugs at the heartstrings.
At last, we can say that every character plays their part perfectly. And also supported each other on big screens very neatly.

Songs & Background Music
Satinder Sartaaj is in the movie, therefore we won't be let down by the soundtrack. Music plus Satinder Sartaaj is an unbeatable combination. Sartaaj's soulful voice fits perfectly in every song of the film. There are seven songs in Kali Jotta out of which six songs were released by the makers before release. The film's background music is fabulous and smashes all the right emotional notes, keeping us interested the entire time. With Satinder Sartaaj in the film we can’t get disappointed from the music of the film.
Special Mention to the lines of song ‘Naach’ which hits the best emotional chord and defines the meaning of Kali Jotta with the beautiful voice of Sunidhi Chauhan and Satinder Sartaaj . It Said ‘ Ik Dum Dil Bade Udaas Hoe, Jad Vichadan De Ehsaas Hoe, Akhiyaan Vich Gum De Vaas Hoe, Eh Waqt Hatha Cho Ghir Jana," Oh Chunnia Nu Lag Jaye Gotta Je Kalian To Ban Jaye Jotta Ve".
Lyrics of each and every song had a different meaning and the songs did fit perfectly in every situation of the film. Neither of the songs looked forced and it was beautifully composed and blended by Satinder Sartaaj.
Conclusion
Overall we can say that the film has not given us a single chance to snip any star. Be it acting, story, direction, music or performance, it has kept us glued to our seats. After quite a long time, fans have watched a perfect blend of films which not only make us laugh but teach us a great lesson.
