In line with J&K Government’s vision to create a sustainable start-up ecosystem, Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute on Tuesday organized a one-day start-up, innovation, and entrepreneurship awareness workshop in Shikha Niketan Higher Secondary School,.

The program was coordinated by Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Business Modelling (CIIBM), JKEDI. The program was part of the ongoing efforts of the Government to create an all inclusive entrepreneurship ecosystem in the UT.

Director JKEDI, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, was the chief guest on the occasion. In his interaction with students, he asserted that entrepreneurship not only leaves a positive impact on the lives of entrepreneurs, but also creates wealth and jobs.

“To sensitize our young minds towards entrepreneurship, we come to schools, colleges, and universities. There is no dearth of creativity, innovation, and determination in the youth of J&K.

We at JKEDI are planning to start short-term courses in the field of entrepreneurship for students so that an optimal startup environment is built. Catching them young and inculcating the principles of entrepreneurship is a very critical job and we intend to do this consistently without fail,” said Director, JKEDI.

The Director informed that the Institute organises these events to provide significant insights to young minds and enable them to make better decisions about taking up entrepreneurship as a viable career option.

Rameshwar Mengi, Principal, Shikha Niketan Higher Secondary School also spoke about the charms of entrepreneurship and motivated the students to opt for entrepreneurship as a career option.

Under the ‘J&K Startup Policy 2018-2028’, the UT administration aims to nurture and inspire the young and entrepreneurial brains of Jammu and Kashmir to pursue innovation and entrepreneurship by creating a vibrant and conducive start-up environment in the region.

The Government is in the process of revising the guidelines of J&K Startup Policy in order to make it more startup-friendly. This will boost the startup ecosystem of the UT and will help the innovators and aspiring entrepreneurs in J&K.

Technical sessions were also organized during the event where senior faculty members of the Institute gave detailed presentations about the policies and initiatives of the Institute.

They also gave an overview on enterprise creation and highlighted the aspects of the Startup policy. Hundreds of aspiring entrepreneurs and students participated in the event.

Arif Ahmad Khan, Communication Officer, JKEDI; Sunil Kotwal, Accounts Officer, JKEDI; Gautam Saini, Assistant Faculty; Vijender Jamwal, Assistant Faculty & Imtiyaz Ahad, Associate Project Manager among others participated in the program.
