Government College for Women today organised a series of events under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The Literary Club and Department of Hindi, in collaboration with Jammu Kashmir Rashtriya Bhasha Prachar Smiti celebrated International Hindi Diwas under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav(AKAM) here on the college campus.

Padma Shri Prof. Shiv Nirmohi was the chief guest, while Dr. Adarsh Prakash, a renowned writer & poet was the guest of honor. The programme started with the lighting of traditional lamp.

Padma Shri Prof. Shiv Nirmohi highlighted the significance of every language andexplained the inter-relatedness of various languages and how each language has helped the other language in its evolution.

Prof. Nirmohi also talked about the holistic nature of every language that how different nations are geographically divided but language-wise are one. Earlier, in her welcome address, Principal of the host college Dr. Monika Sharma stressed upon the importance of different languages in general and of Hindi in particular. 

Afterwards, the students also enthusiastically participated in the function where they recited poems and talked about the importance of Hindi language in the country. On the occasion, President Jammu Kashmir Rashtriya Basha Prachar Smiti Jammu Dr. B.B Sharma gifted a book entitled Bhartiya Basha Kosh to the Principal, Dr. Monika Sharma. 

He also highlighted the history and importance of international Hindi Day (Vishwa Hindi Diwas) which celebrated worldwide every year. A Kavi Samelan was also organized as part of the event which was presided over by Dr. Adarsh Prakash. Girija Sharma,  Varun Veer, Neelu Thappa, Dr. Mool Raj, Dr. Mukhteshi Sharma recited their poems in the Kavi Samelan.

The entire event was conducted by Dr. Rumaisa Nazir, lecturer in Hindi and Vote of thanks was given by Mr. Mushtaq Ahmed, HOD Hindi. As many as 250 students of the college witnessed the Kavi Samelen. 

Meanwhile, Career Counselling, Guidance and Placement (CCGP) Cell of the College organised an awareness lecture on “Role of e-Resources in various Job Opportunities”. Prof. (Dr.) Monika Sharma, Principal GCW Udhampur was the chief guest of the occasion. 

The Proceedings of the Program were initiated by Dr. Amit Kumar, Co-Convener CCGP Cell. Prof. Shama Rani welcomed the chief guest and the resource person of today’s event, Arun Gupta, Librarian GCW Udhampur.

In his presentation, the resource person made the students aware about the various e-resources available online as well as in the college library. He also enlightened the students about how to prepare for the competitive exams, entrance exams of different universities, various eligibility exams etc. by making use of available e-resources. 

He also made students familiar with e-kitabkosh, Swayam, N-List, e-content of different institutions, virtual library, online newspaper etc. Similarly, Cyber Jagrukta Club of the college organized intra college quiz competition on  the cyber security.

 The students from different streams forming three teams  comprising of five members participated in the competition.. The proceeding of the event was carried by  Shallu Jasrotia (Assistant Professor in Music).

The questions related to the topics mobile phone safety, laws related to cyber security, online initiatives available related to cyber security, online financial frauds and types of cyber crimes  were asked from the participants in the quiz.

 Samiksha, Simran, Raveena, Jyoti and Sindu- the participants of team-B bagged first position, while Bhumika, Aastha, Manvi, Sanchi and Mohani of team-A emerged 2nd. Manisha, Nahida, Sonam,Vanshika and Palak- the participants of team-C  bagged 3rd position.

About 52 students attended the event and acquired insights regarding cyber security and its relevance.
