CM Gives Nod To Set Up 'Teachers Recruitment Board' For The Selection Of School Teachers

Model Schools For Brilliant Rural Students To Come Up At Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Bathinda And Mohali

To cope up with the shortage of teachers and maintain the standards of quality education in the government schools across the state, the Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal has decided to establish 'Teachers Recruitment Board' for the selection of teachers in Model, Adarsh and Rashtiya Madhamik Sikhya Ahbyaan (RAMSA) schools.A decision to this effect was taken by the Chief Minister in a meeting with the senior officers of the School Education Department here at CMO this morning.

The Chief Minister also gave nod for the Teachers Selection Recruitment Board to appoint them in these existing schools besides upcoming Models Schools to be established in due course of time. The board would be headed by the Principal Secretary School Education whereas Vice Chancelllors of Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar and Punjabi University Patiala , Director General School Education and Chairperson of the Punjab School Education Board would be its members and DPI Schools would be its convener. Underscoring the need for imparting quality education to the students, the Chief Minister said that for this purpose the selection of professional teachers with an impeccable commitment and dedication was necessary. He said that thus the sole criteria for the recruitment of the teachers would be strictly based on the merit of the candidates. He said that the Board must complete the entire recruitment process of the Model, Adarsh and RAMSA Schools by the month of September this year adding that until the recruitment process was not completed alternative arrangements must be made for providing education to the students so that their studies must not suffer.

Assuring the proposal of setting up new model schools for the students of the rural areas securing 80% of more marks from the Government schools in the Matric class, the Chief Minister said that these schools would be established at Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Bathinda and Mohali so that the meritorious students of nearby districts could also be benefitted from these state of the art institutions. He said that every Model School would be established over an area of 10 acre and Rs 10 crore would be spent to equip these schools with the ultra modern facilities like Computer labs, Laboratories, Libraries, classes besides playgrounds and residential complexes for the teachers and the students. Mr. Badal asked the Principal Secretary Education to get the civil work on these schools commenced at the earliest so that the classes could be started from the next academic session. The Chief Minister categorically said that by there would be no shortage of teaching faculty and infra structure in these schools from the next academic session. He also asked the Principal Secretary School Education to constitute a committee of experts to monitor the ongoing civil works in these schools to ensure quality control and proper specification of building material.  

The Chief Minister desired that an exclusive Rural University should be set up on the pattern of Andhra Pradesh to ensure quality education to the students belonging to Rural areas after matriculation. He also directed the officers of the School Education department to study the Andhra Model so that it could also be replicated in the state with any modifications if required.Prominent amongst those present in the meeting included Principal Secretary School Education Mrs. Anjali Bhawra, Special Principal Secretaries of the Chief Minister Mr. KJS Cheema and Mr. KJS Cheema.
