On directives of Dinesh Chadha, PPCB issued a notice against branded companies for not recycling waste plastic envelopes

On the instruction of MLA Advocate Dinesh Chadha, the Punjab Pollution Control Board has issued a notice against branded companies for not recycling the waste plastic envelopes.

He said that it is very unfortunate that reputed companies such as Kurkare, Lays, Surf-Excel and Rin Detergent etc. have been violating the rules of the Government which are enforced to protect the environment. 

He said that as per instructions issued for the year 2022-23, it is mandatory for the companies to recycle 70 percent of the waste plastic envelope, while during the year 2021-22, 25 percent of the plastic was to be recycled.

On this occasion, MLA Chadha disclosed that under the Guidelines on Extended Producer Responsibility for Plastic Package Rules-2016 issued by the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, extended producer responsibility, responsibilities of brand owners/Producers/Manufactures have been fixed on plastic packaging.  

The purpose of which is to reduce the pollution caused by plastic waste and to manage it smoothly.Drawing attention to waste plastic envelopes of these well-known companies in the open garbage of the cities and on the roads, the MLA said that Xen Vijay Kumar of the Punjab Pollution Control Board and Dr. Naresh Bharadwaj from Punjab Infrastructure Development Board who is in charge of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan also visited Ropar garbage dump.  

Where a large amount of garbage related to these companies was piled up, after which the Punjab Pollution Control Board has now issued a notice to these companies for violating the rules.He said that it is alarming time to take action against these companies so as to secure and protect the environment for our future generations

He said that if these well-known companies fulfil their responsibility properly, then a major part of the waste problem in Punjab can be solved in a good way.  To achieve this goal, they will take action against the guilty companies at all levels.
