Botany Department of the Government Degree College Kishtwar today started the development of Herbal garden on the college campus. Initially, around 1500 square feet area of the College Campus will be developed for planting  local herbal cum medicinal plants  in coming months.

Local expert Subash Manhas, a member of research advisory group HFRI, Shimla was invited as a special guest to impart expertise about the establishment of the herbal garden and the requirements for its maintenance.

The development of the Herbal Garden was launched in presence of the College  Principal  Prof.(Dr ) Jyoti Parihar; HOD Botany Department, Prof. Faisal Mushtaq; Prof. Susheel Kumar, Prof. Ajay Kumar(HOD Physics) , Dev Raj from Thakrae, Local Fund Employees and  Botany students of B.Sc 3rd semester 

Mr. Subash explained in detail the soil type, favourable conditions required to grow the Herbal and medicinal plants, installation of drip irrigation facilities and its functioning. 

It is pertinent to mention here that the Botany Department of Degree college Kishtwar has made a detailed plan to introduce several high yielding horticultural plant species in the campus in addition to establishment of a Vegetable garden on modern lines in near future. Several new Add on Courses will be introduced to promote the skill ability of students.
