Achieving yet another milestone under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government, the water supply and sanitation department will provide clean piped drinking water to all rural households in Punjab by 31 December 2022. So far, out of 34.26 lakh rural households in the state, 99.93 per cent households (34.24 lakh) have been given piped drinking water supply. Only 125 habitations are left and the work is going on vigorously to cover them soon.

Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Bram Shanker Jimpa said that the government led by CM Mann is working assiduously to provide basic facilities to the people of Punjab from day one. It is also the aim of the government that the people should not face any kind of hardship for the facilities and get all the facilities at their doorstep without any hassle.

He said that in many areas of Punjab, people were facing shortage of clean drinking water, but the Punjab government has now delivered clean water through pipes to almost all the rural houses. He has also appreciated the commitment of officials and employees of the Water Supply and Sanitation Department for performing the duty.

Likewise, the head of the department, Mohammad Ishfaq, has given instructions to the concerned officers that the piped supply of drinking water has not yet provided to a few houses, and this facility should be provided by December 31, 2022, so that in the year 2023, all the rural houses in Punjab will be covered and state can become to provide 100% supplies water through pipes.

He said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, we are fully striving to achieve the target of 100 percent water supply in the state by 31 December 2022, while the national target is 2024.

Pertinently, 15 districts of Punjab have been honored with 'Har Ghar Jal Certificate' on 'Swacch Bharat Diwas' at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi this year. In the year 2023-24, the water supply and sanitation department is also planning to start work to raise the existing water supply level in 1050 villages at a cost of Rs 622 crore.
