The weeklong celebrations of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas began today in Budgam to mark the celebration of birth anniversary of Tribal Freedom Fighter, Birsa Munda.In this regard, the Tribal Affairs Department in collaboration with District Administration Budgam organised an event at Sheikh-ul-Alam Hall Budgam, where students and artists of the tribal community presented colorful programmes.

Deputy Commissioner (DC), Budgam, S F Hamid who was chief guest on the occasion said that the day is celebrated as a day of “pride”.Appreciating the tribal community for its enormous contribution towards the national building and humanity in general, the DC said that the community is dedicated towards nature and humanity. 

He said they are connected to their culture and roots.The DC said that various new schemes and initiatives have been launched for the progress and development of tribals. He urged the Tribal youth to take maximum benefits of Tribal related schemes, be it for education, sports, self employment and other fields for their overall development. 

He said special focus is being given on Tribal areas development and informed that the District Administration Budgam shall organize programmes on awareness of schemes in all blocks and Tribal belts to ensure maximum reach to the end beneficiaries.

Paying tributes to Tribal Freedom Fighter Birsa Munda, the DC extended his greetings to the whole community.He laid emphasis on documenting their literature and history and promotion of the community.The speakers informed that singing, folk dancing, dramas, awareness programmes, painting competitions, tour of students to historic places and other events shall be organised in tribal areas during the weeklong celebrations in Budgam.

CEO Education, Mushtaq Ahmad Qadri, Warden Gujjar and Bakerwal Boys Hostel Budgam, Nisar Ahmad Kohli also spoke on the occasion.
