District Administration Rajouri today hosted a grand district-level function at PWD Dakbunglow as part of the Jan Jatiye Gaurav Diwas celebrations. The function was presided over by District Development Council, Chairperson Chowdhary Naseem Liyaqat and attended by Deputy Commissioner, Vikas Kundal, Senior Superintendent of Police, Mohammad Aslam, ADC, Sachin Dev Singh and a large number of social society members.

To mark the occasion, tribal cultural events were also organized which mesmerized the audience. The speakers   spoke at length about the great and invaluable contribution made by the tribal heroes for India's freedom.

Addressing the event, the Deputy Commissioner said that Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas is celebrated to recognize the efforts of the tribal community in the preservation of cultural heritage and promotion of Indian values of national pride, valour  and hospitality.

The DC said that a series of events are being organized on a large scale to pay tributes to tribal freedom fighters who are considered unsung heroes of India's freedom struggle. He also said that the tribal communities made great contributions towards the freedom struggle, and their sacrifices in our independence struggle are immense, incomparable, and invaluable.

He also said that the public at large is not very aware of these tribal heroes. He also stressed the need for generating massive awareness among the general public about the significance of the day so that the coming generations could know about the sacrifices of the tribal community for the country.

Highlighting the measures being taken for the welfare of the tribal community, he said that the government is very concerned about the socio-economic development of the tribes and a number of measures have been taken in this regard.

Referring to scores of schemes and welfare programs launched by the government for the welfare of the tribal population, he urged the tribals to avail themselves of the benefits of the same.The DC said that two EMRs are being constructed for the tribal students at Gurdhan Balla and Hubbi, and that foundation stones for tribal transit accommodation facilities for the tribal population have been laid at Kesari Hill (Koteranka) and Thanamandi, which are under construction and once completed will prove useful for the migratory population.

Speaking at the event, the DDC Chairperson, Chowdhary Naseem Liyaqat, highlighted the significance of the day, saying that Jan Jatiye Gaurav Diwas is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of Birsa Munda, the iconic tribal freedom fighter.

He also said that the government is placing much emphasis on empowering the tribal community so that they can live a life of self-respect and dignity.Underlining the need to make the young generation aware of the sacrifices and struggles of tribal freedom fighters, the DDC Chairperson said that along with Bhagwan Birsa Munda and many other tribal heroes, they made supreme sacrifices for the tribal community and made immense contributions for a new India.

He also said that although a number of schemes and welfare programs have been launched by the government for the welfare of the tribal population, the tribal population at large is not aware of these welfare measures, and the need of the hour is to educate them about these initiatives.

A poetry collection book titled "Raindrops on My Pain," written by 13-year-old Anna Rashid was also released at the event.
