The two-day long Chhinjh Mela (Wrestling Fair) organized at village Majari in Garhshankar concluded with grandeur on Sunday late evening. Thousands of people attended the event, where, Hon’ble Deputy Speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha Jai Krishan Singh Rauri was the Chief Guest.

Apart from Punjab, Wrestlers from adjoining states including Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan also came to participate in the Chhinjh Mela to show their wrestling skills. The Mela commenced on November 12, 2022.

Addressing the gathering, Deputy Speaker Jai Krishan Singh said that the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann-led- Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in the state is the government of the common people. He said that CM Bhagwant Mann is committed to making Punjab a leading state in the field of sports.

On the occasion, he also announced that a sports stadium will be constructed in the village with the cost of Rs 25 lakh, with an aim to keep youth connected with sports.Showing concern about the pathetic road from Garhshankar to Nangal, Mr Rauri said that he has already been taking up the issue for the last six months.

“Before December 1, 2022, the tender to carpet the Garhshankar to Nangal road will be issued and construction work will be started immediately so that the new road could be dedicated to the public at the earliest,” he assured. He also assured to establish a sub-tehsil at Adda-Jhugia, so that people won’t have to travel long-distance to get their routine work done.

The Deputy Speaker said that every promise made to the people before the assembly elections will be fulfilled, and all the development works at village Majari will be completed on a priority basis. “We will leave no stone unturned to facelift the village Majari and develop it as a Model village,” he said.

Pertinently, the Chhinjh Mela was organized by the Chhinjh Committee headed by Sarpanch Somnath Rana with the support of the Rajput Community. The contribution by NRIs from their earnings had been a great support to make the event a great success.

More than 200 wrestlers (100 pairs) showed their strength during the Chhinj Mela.As per the results of four wrestling matches, Pravesh Bahadurgarh emerged as a winner. Similarly,  Parveen Kohali remained at second position.
