As we have entered the concluding phase of Special Swachhta Campaign 2.0, the Ministry of Mines marked its finale with Union  Minister of Mines, Coal and Parliamentary Affairs, Shri Pralhad Joshi’s visit to GSI office, Dimapur, Nagaland on 31st October, 2022. 

This is one of the 84 site offices identified by the Ministry throughout India for implementing 116 Swachhta Campaigns. During his visit, Minister Shri Pralhad Joshi inspected the office premises and planted saplings in the GSI premises. 

He was accompanied by Shri Sanjay Lohiya, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Mines and Ms. Farida Naik, Joint Secretary and the nodal officer for the special campaign for Ministry of Mines.

The campaign was launched in Ministry by Secretary, Ministry of Mines, Shri Vivek Bharadwaj on 2nd October and since then plethora of activities were undertaken by the ministry and all the attached offices. 

The goal set by Ministry of Mines this year was “giving back to the environment in the form of rainwater harvesting, compost pits, cleaning lakes/ponds and eco-disposal of waste.”Ministry of Mines identified the site in Shastri Bhawan for conversion of space into a wellness café, implemented the method of segregation of waste in departmental canteens as suggested by Minister Shri Pralhad Joshi. 

Reviewing records and disposal of scrap was also done for better record management.As part of best practices the buildings owned by the offices of Ministry of Mines Set-up Rainwater Harvesting structures. 

Three sites were identified for Compost Pit projects. GSITI at Hyderabad started waste segregation in its hostel canteen and started using bio waste for making compost. Compost Pits were also created in GSITI, Hyderabad.

Earlier Secretary, Ministry of Mines, Shri Vivek Bharadwaj visited GSI Headquarter office at Kolkata and inspected the work being done under Special Swachhta Campaign 2.0. GSI undertook activities like scrap disposal, creating open air gym and rainwater harvesting structures etc.

The focus of Ministry of Mines under Special Swachhta Campaign 2.0 was on attached offices and PSUs who have performed really well in the cleanliness drive. GSI has successfully completed 89 cleanliness campaigns and earned a revenue of Rs 1,58,69,554/-  from scrap disposal. 

Ministry of Mines has successfully achieved the 100 per cent target of conducting 147 cleanliness campaigns, earning a revenue of Rs 4,00,20,768. 2,24,093 files weeded out and about 1,14,084 square feet space has been freed through efficient records management.
