Punjab Government has directed Health & Family Welfare department for Implementation of Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens' Act, 2007.Disclosing this here today Surjit Kumar Jayani Health & Family Welfare Minister said that orders in this regard have been issued to all the wings of the health department.Minister said that under the section 20 of Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007 various Medical support facilities would be provided to the senior citizens in the government and government aided hospitals.
Jayani said that in government hospitals or hospitals funded fully or partially by the Government shall provide beds for all senior citizens as far as possible, Separate queues be arranged for senior citizens, facility for treatment of chronic, terminal and degenerative diseases is expanded for senior citizens. ‘Research activities for chronic elderly diseases and ageing are expanded & there should be earmarked facilities for geriatric patients in every district hospital duly headed by a medical officer with experience in geriatric care, added Jayani.Minister said that all senior officials have been directed to issue instructions to all concerned working under their control to comply with the above provisions of the said Act, and take needful action in the matter.
