District Administration Samba, to give impetus to local artists and local handmade products, today organized a mega Diwali Mela at Rural Haat Swankha, Vijaypur.Deputy Commissioner, Anuradha Gupta, after inaugurating the Diwali Mela, called upon all sections of society to promote and support to local artists and their handmade products especially during the Diwali season.
The DC said that under Vocal for Local and Atamnirbhar campaign, the Administration with the support of local artisans, organised Diwali Mela to provide a platform for sale of their handmade products including earthen Divas, decorative items, food stalls, bags, shawls, dresses etc.
Local delicacies including jalebi, thandi khui barfi, Samba ke bhalle etc stalls were also put up on the occasion.The DC Samba said that as per Govt instructions, rural haats are being established at Panchayat level where flea markets will be held one day in a week.
All local artisans will get an opportunity to sell their products and consumers will also get products easily. She said that broadbasing the membership of SHGs, cooperatives by enrolling unemployed people, their skill up gradation and handholding for market linkages is the topmost priority of District administration, Samba.
Various stalls by line departments including NRLM, Handicrafts and Handloom, Horticulture, NABARD, Cooperatives, Agriculture were also installed to promote there registered artists and beneficiaries.Among various locals PRI members, Senior officers and others prominent personalities visited the Diwali Mela and took part in celebrations.
The programme was coordinated by Chief Planning Officer Sukhleen Kour and AD, Handicrafts, Niharica with the support of sectoral officers.
