Shab-e-Baraat was observed in Jammu and Kashmir Friday night with religious zeal and fervor. The biggest gathering on the eve of Shab-e-Baraat was held at the historic Jamia Masjid Srinagar where thousands of people, including women participated in the night long prayers. The prayers were led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. According to a statement issued, Mirwaiz spoke about the significance of Shab-e-Baraat and said it was a pine night when Almighty Allah arranges affairs of the next one year. On Shab-e-Barat, Allah writes the destinies of all his creations for the coming year by taking into account their past deeds.

While reciting Quran, Mirwaiz said the occasion provides opportunity to spend the night in praying and seeking forgiveness and blessings from Allah. He asked people to implement the teachings of Quran and Islam and specially stressed upon the youth to follow the footsteps of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) so as to eradicate social ills and bring reforms in the society.Mirwaiz said the Quran was the complete was of life for mankind and till judgment day Muslims would continue to be guided by the holy book. He said it was distressing that Muslims have put Quranic guidance and teaching on the back burner which has become the main cause of suffering and anguish for them. While concluding his sermon, Mirwaiz along with thousands of people asked Allah for forgiveness from sins, prayed for well being of the Umaah in general and for the Muslims of Jammu and Kashmir in particular.
