An awareness program on International Day of Girl Child was today  organised by District Child Protection Unit, Mission Vatsalya Kishtwar here at Govt Girls Higher Secondary School.Protection Officer (Institutional Care), DCPU Mission Vatsalya Kishtwar, Deepika Bhandari enlightened that the day is not far when girl child will maintain her individuality with no external pressures and will further excel in every sphere of her life.

She stressed that nations need to pledge to assist young girls to grow into an empowered women, who shall have access to proper healthcare, skill-based learning facilities and equal opportunities in a world free from gender-based violence and discrimination.

She said that the Juvenile Justice Act is also focusing on child rights and said that the District Child protection unit was spreading awareness in the district with the objective to empower the girl children and enable them to enjoy their rights so that they can face the challenges in life and meet their needs.

The speakers further said that women are the primary caretakers of the children and elders in every country of the world. International research and studies reveals that when the economy and political organization of a society changes, women take the lead in helping the family to adjust to the new realities and challenges.

Principal Government Girls Higher Secondary School Kishtwar, Sunita Sharma, Social Workers DCPU Mission Vatsalya Kishtwar Saima Kousar and Meenakshi Sharma also spoke on the occasion.
