As part of the ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir’ Abhiyan, the Agriculture Department, Ramban today organized an awareness programme to make participants aware about substance abuse and ways to get rid of this menace and its total eradication from society.
The awareness camp was presided over by the Chief Agriculture Officer, Ramban Dr. Ashwani Kumar which was attended by SDAO, Sudhir Manhas, Sarpanch, Mohinder Kumar, and various officers of the Agriculture department, PRIs, and farmers.
On the occasion, the CAO and other speakers educated the PRIs and villagers about the hazards of taking drugs and other intoxicants.Dr. Ashwani warned the villagers not to cultivate plants of cannabis (Bhang) and Poppy (Afeem) and advised Sarpanches, Panches, DDC and BDC members, etc to cooperate with the Police and District Administration to identify persons if they cultivate these plants illegally, besides giving treatment to persons using drugs.
The CAO said that such plants shall be destroyed and the culprit can be prosecuted. He said that the addicts can be admitted to the drug de-addiction centres and with the holistic approach they can be de-addicted to save society from this menace.
On the occasion, all the participants took a pledge to abstain from any type of drug or intoxicant and help the government in eradicating this social menace.Speakers deliberated on drug abuse and highlighted the need of taking preventive measures to eradicate the menace of drug addiction and other social evils in the district.
The participants were asked to play a proactive role in eradicating drugs from society and not to indulge in drug abuse.
