University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE) also known as M Visvesvaraya Engineering University was today decreed an Autonomous Institution of State Eminence by the Government of Karnataka as per the NEP framework. Honourable Chief Minister of Karnataka Basvaraj Bommai and Minister for Higher Education, Dr. Ashwath Narayan today inaugurated the newly renovated campus.

The event also commemorated Engineer’s Day that marked the birth anniversary of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya’s, a diwan of the former Mysore kingdom who is credited with pioneering civil engineering in the state.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Ashwath Narayan, Minister for Higher Education; IT & BT, Science & Technology; Skill Development, Entrepreneurship & Livelihood, Government of Karnataka said, “Over the years, Karnataka has carved itself a place right at the top for engineering, science, research and development in the country.

The upgrade of UVCE to autonomous status is in line with Vision 2030 for higher education and holds much promise. The new status will mean that the university will have the best quality of faculty, relevance of curriculum, collaborative research with industry that will eventually narrow the employability gap and create a workforce of world-class engineers.

The University will continue to be owned by the government but will have the independence to work and function autonomously.”The 105-year-old UVCE is a legacy institute that was recently revamped and elevated on the lines of IIT at a cost of INR 10 crore.

In the next eight years by 2030, the government aims to bring back the lost glory of this renowned college and elevate it to a position of eminence. Honourable CM Basavaraj Bommai’s ‘Dare to dream, then decide to do’, is the fundamental tenet and driving force behind the government’s goal to reinvigorate the lost sheen of this great cradle of learning.
