As we all know that ‘Hindi Diwas’ is around the corner. It is celebrated on the date of September 14 every year. Hindi has its own individuality and separate fragrance. It means it shows the real India in between.

Who coined the ‘Hindi Diwas’ ?

The first prime minister of the country, Jawahar Lal Nehru, coined the day of Hindi Diwas. He has decided that in India, on 14 September the ‘Hindi Diwas’ shall be celebrated. After three years of independence, the first Prime minister of independent India has taken the decision to celebrate the 14 September as ‘Hindi Diwas’. In India, the first Hindi Day was celebrated on 14 September 1949.

Is Hindi our national language?

Many of us thought that Hindi was our national language, but this is not true. In this article we will tell you the reality that  Hindi is our mother language and it is not registered anywhere. In fact, there is no official national language of India. In the Indian constitution, it is mentioned that “The official language of the Union shall be Hindi in Devanagari script”.

Who started to celebrate ‘World Hindi Diwas’ & How many Indians speak Hindi?

In the year of 2006, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh celebrated the ‘World Hindi Diwas’. So Hindi is our native language, which is spoken in seven other countries except for India. The Hindi language is a widely spoken language in India. At least 258 million people speak Hindi and it is written in Devnagri scripts.

But unfortunately, it is sad to see that while living in India, people of the nation don't prefer to communicate with each other in this specific language. Even in job interviews, we have seen that an interviewer mostly prefers someone who is versed in English. We have seen in every profession that communication in English has been made mandatory by these companies, which should not be justified with a person’s skills.

Moreover, we are heading towards more points. Media imperialism is also destroying our identity somewhere. Our current PM, Narendra Modi has also said on the occasion of the 76th Independence Day that we should stop this media imperialism in our culture.

Media imperialism means the domination of any other foreign culture on our culture, which is our traditional and cultural identity. We need to stop this imperialism. It is not bad to learn or know about other cultures, but excessive adoption of another culture, or forgetting about our roots or tradition, is not okay.

In India, we are still following the language and the ritual of speaking in English, the language of those who have ruled over India and Indians for 100 years. The Indians have made their language mandatory in their corporation, which means somewhere we are still under their slavery. Also, it seems like the language is losing its existence as everyone is adapting to the English language more than our mother tongue, Hindi. Now, the question arises, do you think that the loyalty of children towards Hindi is decreasing? Or it’s important to give priority to English more than our mother tongue?
