Principal Secretary, Skill Development Department (SDD), Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon in presence of Chairperson, District Development Council, Ramban, Dr. Shamshad Shan today inaugurated the newly constructed building of Polytechnic College at Chanderkote here.On the ocassion, classes were also started in the newly constructed building at the Polytechnic.

Deputy Commissioner, Ramban, Mussarat Islam; Chairperson BDC, Amjad Ali; DDC Councillor, Renuka Katoch, Director Skill Development Department,  Principal, Polytechnic College Ramban, Suket Gupta, Executive Engineer PWD (R&B), Abhishek Gupta, other senior officers and a large number of students and locals  attended the inaugural function.

The Principal Secretary informed that an amount of Rs 13 crore has been spent on the building so far by the executing agency PWD (R&B), Ramban. The Polytechnic College spreading over about 65 kanals of area, he said.The Principal Secretary appreciated the efforts made by the Deputy Commissioner for completing construction work of the ground floor, besides starting the functioning of the college in the newly constructed building at Chanderkote.

He directed the Executive Engineer, PWD to complete the work of 2nd and the top floor as early as possible. Dr. Samoon highlighted that due to technological innovations, there is a need to optimally adaptation of required infrastructure at the institutes to enable the pass-outs to compete in the present fast-growing industrial world. 

He said that trades of modern needs including Civil Engineering, Automobile Engineering and Tourism will be introduced soon in the institute for the benefit of the trainees.The Principal Secretary informed that an adequate number of faculties have been provided on an Academic arrangement basis to impart quality training to enrolled youth in the institution. 

The machinery required for training purposes of more than Rs. 1 crore will be provided to institutions soon to accelerate practical activities for the trainees.The Principal Secretary directed the Principal Polytechnic college to ensure 100% (cent percent) enrollment against available vacancies, besides submitting a proposal for starting new trades which have the potential in generating Job opportunities locally.

He also directed the Faculty members to sensitize the trainees for starting their own ventures to overcome the unemployment issue. Dr. Samoon directed the officers to sensitize the girls about the benefits of the Pragati Scholarship Scheme being provided by the All India Council for Technical Education under which 32 eligible girls are already taking financial assistance amounting to Rs. 50,000 annually in the institution. 

Dr. Samoon directed the Principal to start functioning of workshops  and canteen in the premises of newly constructed dedicated blocks to facilitate the students and staff.Highlighting on the need for making the trainees self-sufficient, Dr. Samoon asked the management of college to arrange regular field visits for the trainees to different industrial units so that they get practical knowledge of working there. 

Remarking about the need for up-gradation of teaching methods, the Principal Secretary emphasized upon the faculty to upgrade themselves on a regular basis with all types of modern advancements in the field of technical skilling so that the students are properly trained in their respective trades at the institute. 

He asked the Principal to develop coordination with industries, construction companies and renowned institutions for conducting campus placement of their outgoing trainees. Meanwhile, the DDC Chairperson along with members of DDC Ramban discussed various issues of the district pertaining to the Skill Development Department including the construction of ITI building at Ramban, strengthening of infrastructure in ITI Gool and Banihal, start of new trades and Bus for Polytechnic College Ramban.

Responding to the issues, Dr. Samoon assured that the issues highlighted by the Chairperson will be addressed in a phased manner. Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner gave a brief account of development scenarios especially pertaining to the Skill Development sector and informed that a MoU will be signed between Technical Education Institutions and IRCON, besides other industrial companies for starting training courses pertaining to their working areas to provide more job opportunities to local youth.

Responding to the demand for the construction of a Hostel for students at Chanderkote, the DC said that students belonging to other parts of the district will be accommodated in Yatri News until the construction of the Hostel is completed.
