The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, Dr Basharat Qayoom today chaired the District level Narco Coordination (NCORD) Centre meeting at Dakbanglow Khanabal, here.Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that the drug menace needs continued and participatory efforts . He said immediate action is needed by all stakeholders.
While directing the concerned District/ Sectoral officers, the DC said that a multi-pronged strategy covering identification, rehabilitation, conviction, counseling, campaigning, awareness, destroying bung cultivation, poppy and cannabis must be taken up. He said PRIs, NGOs, village elders, etc should spread awareness and counsel the youth in this regard.
The District/ Sectoral officers expressed their views and submitted action taken in this regard before the chair which includes conducting of nukad nataks, awareness camps, holding of pledge ceremonies, capacity building programmes, destroying illicit bung/ poppy cultivations, motivating the people for cash crops etc besides lodging of FIRs against habitual offenders.
It is in place to mention that the committees of NCORD had been floated by the Ministry of Home Affairs to bolster steps at different levels to combat drug trafficking and ensure better coordination among the Central, State, and Union territory governments.
The meeting was attended by ADC, SP Headquarters, ACD, DFOs, ETO South, DSWO, SDMs of Pahalgam, Dooru, Bijbehara, Kokernag, Dy.SPs, SHOs, Drug Controller Anantnag, District Agriculture officer and various other concerned officers.
