Principal Government Degree College Kathua, Prof. Sumanesh Singh Jasrotia on Sunday morning flagged off the Cycle Yatra of Dr Kiran Seth (Padam Shri) in presence of Dr. Sapna Kamal Sangra; Prof. Rakesh Singh Jasrotia HOD Chemistry, Prof Manmohan Singh; Dr Verinder Singh and Dr J S Soodan.

Padamshree Dr Kiran Seth was on a 145 day mission of cycling from Kashmir to Kanyakumari at the age of 73. He was on his maiden visit to the premier institute Government Degree College Kathua from August 27, 2022 where the College Management and students accorded him a rousing welcome. 

Besides, College Principal, Senior Faculty Members Dr. Seema Malpotra, Prof. Rakesh Singh HOD Chemistry, Prof. Rahul Singh HOD Computer Science, Prof. Anoop Sharma, Prof. Bharat, Dr. Verinder Singh, Dr. Amrik Singh, Prof. Manmohan Singh, Dr. Suresh Sharma, Dr. Rachna Devi, Dr. Neha Bandral and Dr Pinky Sharma welcomed the adventure Cyclist.

 A guard of honour was presented to Dr Kiran Seth by the 4 J&K BN NCC GDC Kathua, headed by ANO Dr Verinder Singh and escorted by the 2 J&K Girls BN NCC  GDC Kathua,  headed by Dr Rachna Devi. He was formally welcomed by the Principal of the college Prof. Sumanesh Jasrotia. 

In his welcome address, the Principal admired Dr Seth’s zeal and enthusiasm towards inspiring the Youth to make India a great Nation.His journey began on August 15  from Raj Bhawan, Kashmir and will culminate on  December 31 at Kanyakumari. The motive of his cycling odyssey is to promote  India’s composite cultural heritage and to spread Mahatma Gandhi’s message of simple living and high thinking.

Dr Seth was accompanied by Dr. Sapna Kamal Sangra, who is the J&K head of SPIC MACAY and  Vikram Singh Jamwal, Physical Director, GDC Hiranagar, who bicycled with Dr Seth from GDC Hiranagar to GDC Kathua.Dr Kiran Seth interacted with the College students in two consecutive sessions and enlightened the students about different methods of concentration of mind. 

He also elaborated about Indian Classical music and its essence of spiritual wellbeing. He further talked about the SPIC MACAY and said it was organizing about 500 programmes in about 1500 institutions.The students of National Service Scheme, NCC and Physical Education and Sports attentively listened to the Professor Emeritus Dr Kiran Seth and assured him about the preservation of India’s cultural heritage and its diversity.

Dr Kiran Seth was felicitated by a memento as a token of love and remembrance by the esteemed Principal Prof. Sumanesh Jasrotia and the staff members.The Vote of thanks was presented by  Prof. Rakesh Singh Jasrotia, HOD Chemistry to the Padamshree Dr Kiran Seth and other dignitaries who had come all the way to visit the premier institute GDC Kathua.

 Dr Kiran Seth, a Professor Emeritus and Padamshrree left for Punjab in continuation to his journey. The entire visit of Dr Kiran Seth was coordinated by Dr. J S Soodan, Physical Director, GDC Kathua.  He was escorted by the “Bicycle for Change Club” members including junior cyclist Master Prikshit Sharma (3rd Class), Narinder Singh, Deep Sharma, Arun, Ajay, Puneet, Rahul, Sunil Sharma and Danwal after the Flagging off the Cycle Yatra at GDC Kathua.
