The 76th Independence Day was celebrated with high esteem, patriotic spirit and great enthusiasm at Government College for Women (GCW), Udhampur by saluting and hoisting Tricolur and paying tributes to the frontline leaders under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. 

Principal GCW Udhampur Dr. Monika Sharma, who was the chief guest, hoisted the National Flag and took salute at an impressive march past by NCC contingents.Besides, the Department of Music organized a scintillating cultural programme presented by students of the department based on the theme of   patriotism and culture and heritage.

Complimenting the audience on the auspicious day, the Principal recalled the services of frontline leaders including Mahatma Gandhi and sacrifices made by numerous freedom struggle heroes in attaining freedom. Dr. Monika said that it is now the prime duty and responsibility of every citizen, especially the youth to keep this hard won freedom intact and flourish day by day by maintaining unity in diversity by following the footsteps of our freedom struggle leaders in letter and spirit.

 HoD Music, Dr. Seema Sharma, HoD Zoology Dr. Sanjeet Kour, HoD Chemistry Prof. Kewal Kumar, HoD Botany Prof. Ashni Devi, senior faculty members, non teaching staff and a large number of students  were present on the occasion.
