To commemorate 75 years of Independence under Azadi ka Mahotsav, Food Safety department, in collaboration with  District Administration Kishtwar and  FSSAI Delhi,  on Wednesday organised Eat right Walkathon and Eat Right Mela  here at district headquarter Kishtwar.

The event was held on the directions of Commissioner FDA J&K, Shakeel-ul-Rehman and under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety, District Doda- Kishtwar Tariq Ahmed and his team of Enforcement officers.In the morning session, the "Eat Right Walkathon"  was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ashok Sharma in presence of ADDC   Sham Lal besides staff members of Food Safety Authority, police and civil administration.

About 200 students, District officers, people from all walks of life participated in the walkathon which started from TRC and passed through Dakbanglow, Hidyal Chowk, main market, Asraria Chowk and culminated at TRC Kishtwar.

The slogans based on the theme "Eat Right Eat Healthy and Fortified"  were chanted to disseminate the message of safe and healthy eating habits  among the general people throughout the Walkathon.

Meanwhile, A Yoga session was organised at Chowgan Ground Kishtwar wherein the Yoga asanas were demonstrated to students by the Yoga experts from AYUSH Department. Besides, the relation between healthy food and appropriate exercise for a healthy life was also highlighted during the session.

The second session witnessed Eat Right Mela presided by the DC    in  presence of ADDC, who was the Guest of Honour on the occasion.Among others CEO KDA, Inderjeet Singh Parihar; ACD, Atul Dutt Sharma, staff of Department of Food safety, ICDS and others concerned besides students remained present.

The programme formally started with lighting of ceremonial lamp and welcome address.An array of cultural items was presented by school students and artists on the theme "Eat right Eat healthy and Fortified".Meanwhile, the DC, along with other Districts officers and staff of Food Department, inspected stalls set up by different Departments including Agriculture, Horticulture, ICDS, AYUSH & Food Business Operators Association and Private hoteliers showcasing locals/organic products and creating awareness on safe and healthy foods.

The participants were given certificates of appreciation, besides three kids were awarded with Gold, Silver, Bronze medals in the painting competition.In his address, DC Kishtwar said that such programmes aim at imparting awareness on safe and healthy diet and healthy eating habits through an interactive and informative model.

 He complimented the efforts of the Department of Food safety, Kishtwar besides termed students as ambassadors to disseminate the message of Eat Right Campaign among family members and in the society at grass root level.He further impressed upon the department to double the efforts in ensuring safe & wholesome food to the Consumers.

Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety Kishtwar in his welcome address urged upon the participants to adopt healthy food habits and avoid junk food habits as much as possible to be away from food borne diseases.He also highlighted the achievements of the Department and enjoined upon the Food Business operators especially manufacturers, Hoteliers, Restaurant owners to adopt Hygiene practice & undergo Hygiene ratings & undergo FoSTaC training so that clean  & safe food is made available to the consumers.

Other speakers also highlighted the impact of adulterated food on our health and underscored the importance of healthy foods to bring down the various diseases and educated them about a healthy lifestyle  which includes exercises, healthy eating habits.

 A Panel was also established as per checklist for the question answer session conducted during the event.The main attraction of the whole session was the Paragliding event  which was  organised in collaboration with KDA.The Team Of Xtreme Adventures comprising Vikas Sharma (Founder & CEO )Rishi Manhas Senior Pilot Vijay Sharma, PilotSumit Sharma Co Pilot  took off from Kalam Satar and landed successfully at Chowgan Ground.
