An event was organised today at Guru Gobind Singh Vidya Mandir ,Senior Secondary School Ratwara Sahib, Mullanpur Garibdas Under "Ujjwal Bharat Ujjwal Bhavishya"programme In which  Mr. Harbhajan Singh, ETO, Minister of Power and Public Works Department, Punjab was the Chief Guest while Miss Anmol Gagan Mann, Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Investment Promotion, Labour and Grievance Redressal Department, Punjab was the Guest of honour.

The programme was conducted under the Guidelines issued by Department of Energy, Government of India, Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) and it was jointly conducted by Punjab Raj Power Corporation Limited, Punjab Raj Power Transmission Limited and District Administration Mohali.

During his keynote address, Electricity Minister Mr. Harbhajan Singh ETO said that today it is a matter of pride for us that after the completion of 75 years of independence, there has been unprecedented progress in the power sector of the country.  

He said that the purpose of today's program which is being celebrated in the whole of Punjab is to highlight our achievements in the power sector. Along with this, information about the importance of electricity in our daily life is also to be shared with people.  

He said that there has been a record-breaking increase in the production and supply of electricity in the first 4 months after the formation of the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab.  

He said that on June 29, 2022, the government supplied the maximum 14208 MW of electricity, while during the paddy season, farmers were supplied with uninterrupted electricity for 24 hours.

He said that Punjab's own electricity generation capacity is 6500 MW while the rest of the electricity has to be taken from other places for transmission.  After the formation of the Aam Aadmi Party government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the government has achieved the target of increasing the transmission capacity to 8500 MW within a few months.  

With this the total transmission capacity has reached 15000 MW.  He said that the government is giving 600 units of free electricity to every beneficiary for domestic use while fulfilling its election promise within 3 months.  

Cabinet Minister Miss Anmol Gagan Mann, thanked the Minister of Power for organizing this event in Kharar Constituency and said that electricity is the basis of our life and the progress of any country can be measured from it like how much electricity is used per person in that country.  

She said that with the Punjab government waiving off 600 units of electricity for domestic consumption, 75 to 80 percent of Punjab's households will have zero electricity bills.  On this occasion, She also placed before the power minister the electricity related problems of her constituency, which the power minister assured to solve soon.

Short films on One Nation One Grid, Renewable Energy, Universal Household Electrification, Rural Electrification, Consumer Rights and Distribution System were also screened during the programme.  During the event, school children also presented programs such as street play, skit, Bhangra etc.

 On this occasion Mr. Amit Talwar Deputy Commissioner, Mr. Ravinder Singh SDM Kharar,DPS Grewal, Sandeep Gupta, Ashwani Kumar All Engineers Punjab State Power Corporation Limited, Xen Taranjit Singh, PEDA Officer Mr. Paramjit Singh, Vice Chairman Ratwara Sahib Trust Sant Baba Harpal Singh , Mr. Sharad Sharma, Project Engineer, PEDA, various officials of the electricity department, residents of the area and school children were present.
