District Level Environment Committee meeting held at Ramban

Additional Deputy Commissioner, Ramban, Harbans Lal Sharma today chaired the District-Level Environment Committee (DLEC) meeting to discuss various issues pertaining to the conservation and management of the natural environment in the district.

DFO Ramban Rajan Singh, DFO Batote Kuldeep Singh, Divisional Officer Pollution Control Committee, Sanjay Rathore, CMO, Dr. Kamal Zadoo, EO of Municipal Committees, and various other senior officers attended the meeting.

The ADC urged the people, especially shopkeepers, to promote the use of cotton bags and to impose a strict ban on the use of single-use plastic items. While reviewing the preparedness made by the different departments about activities to be taken up by them under the District Environment Plan, the ADC passed directions to concerned officers to take strict action against the rule violators.

The ADC directed the enforcement agencies to intensify the drive against the banned single-use plastic products. He directed the authorized teams to inspect the shops and other business establishments and seize the banned plastic items as prescribed in recently issued guidelines besides imposing fines on shopkeepers under extant rules.

During the meeting threadbare discussion was held on banning single-use plastic, Construction & Demolition Waste Management Plan, Pollution Abatement in Non- attainment Cities, Control in Identified Polluted River Stretches, Industrial Waste Water Management Plan, Domestic Sewage Management Plan, Mining Activity Management Plan/ Prevention of Illegal Sand Mining, Hazardous Waste Management Plan, E-Waste Management Plan, Water Quality Management Plan, Air Quality Management Plan, Noise Pollution Management Plan, Restoration of water Bodies in each Village.

During   threadbare discussions, all   members of DLEC were directed to go through the National Green Tribunal guidelines and ensure that the directions are implemented in letter and spirit.
