Leena Manimekalai, a filmmaker, is receiving criticism for her extremely insulting portrayal of Goddess Kaali in her documentary, yet her old tweet is going viral on social media. Her 2013 tweet has surfaced on social media, in which her hatred & abhorrence against Narendra Modi is clearly visible. In the tweet dated September 13, 2013, Manimekalai wrote, “I will surrender my passports, rationcard, pancard and my citizenship if ever Modi becomes this country’s PM in my lifetime. I swear (sic).”
When the old statement regarding PM Modi wenr viral, The Accidental Prime Minister’s filmmaker wrote, “Madame @LeenaManimekali .
You have not stuck to your commitment & promise you made to this country.
It’s 8 yrs now that @narendramodi ji is the PM & you have still not packed your bags to China or Pakistan .
U are a liability to this country .
Not only this, she even tweeted in 2020 that “Ram is not God. He is just a BJP invented the Electronic voting machine.”
Following the uproar over the Goddess' depiction on the movie poster, Twitter removed director Manimekalai's tweet about her documentary Kaali in response to "a legal demand." In response to the divisive poster, the Delhi Police and the Uttar Pradesh Police each filed a separate FIR against Manimekalai.
Meanwhile, speaking of the poster, she showed the goddess Kaali smoking a cigarette. The poster received backlash from netizens stating it is disrespecting the Hindu religion. In fact, the Indian High Commission in Canada asked to take down all "provocative material" related to the film. But the filmmaker also urged people to watch the documentary to understand the context behind the poster.
