The District Administration Shopian in collaboration with the Imtiyaz Memorial Govt. Degree College, Shopian today held a day-long awareness programme on " Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking" at IM GDC Campus, Shopian .
The Programme was attended by the Officers from District Administration /Officials, College Faculty, NSS Volunteers, College Students, AWWs and the general public.Speakers on the occasion from the departments of Health, Higher Education , Social welfare and DLSA shared awareness with the general public and students regarding the various ill aspects of drugs consumption and addiction including its social, economical and health costs.
Besides, way out and mitigation plans to end the drug menace in the District Shopian and ensure a drug free society was also highlighted.Series of awareness events including art Competition, Painting competition, rallies and other activities were held by Health, Education, District Legal Services Authority and College students to observe the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The pledge ceremony was also organised to take a firm stand against the menace of drug abuse.Meanwhile, participants were awarded on the basis of their performance in various activities.The Programme was presided over by the DSWO Shopian, Showkat Ahmad.
