One day Farmers’ awareness cum training camp was organized today at village Subechak, Hiranagar of Kathua district.Director Horticulture Jammu, Ram Savak, JKAS, DDC members, BDC chairman and  more than 200 farmers including women and PRI members participated in the camp.

Addressing the gathering of farmers, the Director Horticulture Jammu deliberated upon the central and UT sponsored Horticulture schemes of the department in vogue. He urged them to adopt latest technologies and Mechanization, High Density Plantation, Strawberry & Aloevera cultivation, protected cultivation, creation of irrigation sources etc.

He further said that the district has great potential for horticulture crops which must be tapped and appealed to the PRI and field functionaries to work in tandem for doubling the farmers’ income with special focus on Nursery Development Scheme of the department, establishment of solar dryers and low cost processing units. 

Moreover, soil testing was also done on the spot.Earlier, Chief Horticulture Officer Kathua Sushil Kumar Angurana  deliberated on the Rainy Season Plantation and impressed upon the farmers  to adopt Horticulture sector on commercial mode.

DLSMS (Plant Pathology/ Pomology) and Manager cum Chemist also spoke on the occasion regarding the technical aspects. The programme was attended by the allied departments viz: Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries etc.

Later, the Director Horticulture Jammu gave away keys of 03   Tractors,  2  Rotavators,  1 Power tiller and  1 Lift irrigation device  to the beneficiaries. Fruit plants were also distributed among the participants in presence of DDC members, BDC chairman, Chief Horticulture Officer, District Officers / HDOs and Sarpanches of the area.
