The Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Khalid Jahangir today convened a meeting of concerned officers to review the arrangements for celebration of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (IDDAIT).
The meeting held threadbare discussion with regard to celebration of the Day and it was decided that a mass movement shall be initiated against the illicit drug trafficking from Kupwara district with large scale involvement of all stakeholders in the awareness campaign.
The DC said that apart from participation of school children, youth clubs, eco clubs, transporters, somo associations, truck associations, traders associations, employees shall participate in the awareness campaign, besides PRIs. He said every nook and corner of the district shall be covered.
It was given out in the meeting that 4 main events shall be held at Degree Colleges of Kupwara, Sogam, Handwara and Tangdar.He said Meritorious students, achievers and youth icons shall be felicitated at the occasion.
It was further informed that apart from these 4 main events, awareness programmes shall be held at all 53 Higher Secondary Schools with participation of 150 students in each school. Awareness programmes shall also be held at panchayat level where special Gram Sabhas shall be held with participation of PRIs, parents, school teachers, youth clubs during which resolutions will be passed with the theme of say no to drugs and signature campaign shall also be held.
It was also decided in the meeting that bike rallies shall be held at Kupwara, Sogam, Handwara and Tangdar.The DC directed concerned officers to provide print material, pamphlets, brochures, playcards and hoardings on the subject.
He said sports has a greater role and directed DYS&SO to mobilize his staff and play proactive role in the mass awareness drive as sports is considered as antidote. He asked him to increase sports activities in the district and involve youth with the varied sports activities.
The Deputy Commissioner said that Social Welfare department has also a greater role and nominated District Social Welfare Officer as Nodal Icon.He asked CEO Kupwara to ensure awareness programmes in all Higher Secondary schools with proper responsibility and interest.
College Principals were asked to provide all support to make the awareness a success.Earlier, DC received feedback from the officers who shared their experiences.Among others who attended the meeting include ADC Handwara, ADC Kupwara, Principals of GDC Kupwara, GDC Sogam, GDC Women's Kupwara; ASP Kupwara, ASP Handwara, CMO, CEO, ACD, ACP and other concerned Officers attended the meeting.
