Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Monday said many more steps will be taken to make Kolkata a better place after it emerged at the top of a survey as the best place in terms of quality of life among Indian cities.A total of 21 cities, including Delhi and several state capitals, were surveyed by the Janaagraha Centre for Citizenship and Democracy January-May 2014. London and New York were the only two cities surveyed outside India to set a benchmark."We are happy that over the last three years, our efforts to restore the past glory of Kolkata and make it a truly great metro - from beautification to making the city clean and green and also improving civic amenities - is yielding results."

"More is planned in the coming days. There is so much more to be done for Kolkata and the people of Kolkata," Banerjee said on her official Facebook page, acknowledging the survey.According to the second edition of the report - "Annual Survey of India's City-System" - which was released Friday, Kolkata was placed first, while Thiruvananthapuram and Bhopal took the second and third spots respectively.Delhi took the fifth spot. The cities were evaluated on four parametres - urban planning and design, urban capacities and resources, empowered and legitimate political representation and transparency, accountability and participation.
