Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) Major Amit Sareen on Friday said that all flood protection works along with Sutlej River worth Rs 4.68 crore would be completed by June 30 in the district.
Reviewing the ongoing works in flood-prone areas, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) said that that these protection works are being carried out at war-footing level along with Sutlej river in Ismailpur, Bhanewal, Talwan Drain, Kot Badal Kalan drain, Tehang drain, Danewal and others areas of the district.
He said that the under Phagwara drainage division (Jalandhar), the works of Rs 3.04 crore are being running besides an amount of Rs 1.68 crore is being spent in Jalandhar drainage division to strengthen bandhs. Sareen told Sub Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) to monitor the progress of the construction, cleaning and strengthening all the vulnerable points.
Additional Deputy Commissioner said that no stone must be left unturned to ensure a fool-proof mechanism for strengthening the weak points so that people do not face any sort of inconvenience during the upcoming rainy season.
Expressing satisfaction over the ongoing works, he asked the officers to make sure that the whole works must be completed by June 30. Further, ADC told panchayat department to ensure cleaning of ponds in the villages.
He also said that the flood control room would be set up here and a duty roster of staff would also be prepared to operate the room from July 1, 2022.ADC said that the evacuation plan, in case of floods, has already been prepared and the sensitive places have also been identified along with the safe places where the residents of flood-prone areas would be shifted if required.
