Union Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Giriraj Singh, is among the low-performing ministers, at the 9th position in the 15-member cabinet of Prime Minister Narendra-Modi led government, as per IANS-CVoter Survey. He is just below Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, who is also not among the top five cabinet ministers, as per the survey. In the survey, which was conducted among the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and non-NDA voters, Giriraj scored 6.95 out of 10 given by the NDA voters. The opposition voters granted only a score of 6.01 to the Minister.Among the top scorers of the Cabinet are Defence Minister Rajnath Singh with a whopping score of 8.36 followed by another popular minister Nitin Gadkari with a score of 8.07.Giriraj's popularity is likely to be seen as faded in view of the reports of rising energy prices and inflation, similar to a few of his colleagues in the team.

He was not performing up to the expectations of the landless agricultural labourers as per the survey. They gave him just a score of 6.83, which has cost him his popularity.Giriraj recently stated that the rural economy holds considerable potential for economic growth and called upon the Panchayati Raj institutions to contribute to making the rural economy stronger and explore possibilities for creating employment opportunities in the rural economic activities. Through this, the country can also achieve sustainable development goals at the village level, he said. The Minister suggested that steps could be taken in the direction of strengthening the economy of the villages by improving production by fruit farming or growing fruit crops in the villages through panchayats.Singh said the work of planting fruit trees can be given a boost through convergence with MGNREGA.He has also advocated for the nationwide implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) following the violence in Delhi's Jahangirpuri. The survey has been conducted at the completion of eight years of the NDA government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
