Minister of Food Processing Industries Smt. Harsimrat Kaur Badal met the industry representatives from the FICCI and CII here last evening. The FICCI delegation was led by Shri Didar Singh, Director General. The delegation included their Food Advisory Committee members and other prominent industry representatives. The CII delegation was led by Shri Ajay S Shriram, President, CII.
In the meeting, various issues relating to improving the food processing sector in the country came up for discussion. The major issues discussed include investment climate, increasing incomes of farmers, value addition, employment generation, revisiting regulatory regime, rationalisation of fiscal incentives, tax concessions to mega food parks and focussing on perishables, GST, practices in western countries on product approval, role of FSSAI appearing as trade barrier, role of APMC in movement of vegetables and skill development in food processing. The Minister assured the industry representatives to look into their suggestions.
