Haryana Governor Shri Bandaru Dattatraya has said that 75 percent of Divyang in India live in rural areas. So social organizations should help them by reaching out to  them.Governor Shri Dattatraya was addressing the people after presenting artificial limbs to more than 1200 Divyang of the district at Maheshwari Bhawan, Sector 7 of  Faridabad on Sunday. The artificial limb distribution function was organized under the joint aegis of Maheshwari Seva Trust (Regd) Faridabad, District Red Cross Society, District  Social Welfare Department and Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti, Jaipur. During this, more than 1200 differently-abled people were presented with artificial legs,  prosthetic hands, crutches, wheel chairs, hand operated tricycles and hearing aids to polio affected persons. In his address, Governor Shri Dattatraya said that today I am feeling  very happy to come to this function.

Congratulating all the social workers, he said that this kind of work is true service to humanity. He said that whether a person is physically handicapped or mentally, he is as  important a part of our society as any other common man. It is the gift of nature that such talent is developed in the handicapped, due to which they can do amazing work. A  living example of this is our Paralympians, who have brought laurels to the country by winning world gold medals at the international level.Calling upon all to make Divyang  self-reliant by helping them, the Governor said that the government has also started various programs for the rehabilitation of Divyang people. These include providing polio  drops, opening of hospitals, appointment of doctors and other medical personnel, provision of all kinds of health facilities. He said that the efforts of the government have also  succeeded to a great extent. In recent years, the attitude of the society towards the Divyang people have also changed fast.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, many steps are being taken for the welfare of Divyangjan. A National Trust has been established for the welfare of  people suffering from Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Retardation and Multiple Disabilities. The National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation has been established to  help them start their own businesses. Business loan up to Rs 5 lakh is being given by this corporation to the disabled people to start their business. He said that in order to take  the welfare schemes of the government to the maximum number of persons with disabilities, the category of Divyangjan has been increased from 7 to 21 per cent. He said that  for the first time, foreign scholarships have been started for differently-abled students along with pre-matric and post-matric. A provision of 4 to 5 per cent reservation has  been made for the differently-abled students in higher education and  government jobs.

Referring to Haryana, Shri Dattatraya said that a provision has been made by the state government to spend ten thousand crore rupees for the social service sector in the year  2021-22, which is a record amount for this sector.Appealing to all social workers, he said that the schemes and programs of the government cannot be fully successful unless  there is public interest and support and their full participation in them. In such a situation, only with the tireless efforts of better social service organizations, by protecting the  rights of the last person of the society, a great work can be done to make his life simple and enjoyable. He said that the manner in which all the government and non-government  organizations have served the people during the Covid pandemic period has increased the respect of our country at the international level. The Governor said that the scope of  social service is very wide.
