In view of Vidhan Sabha elections scheduled for February 20, the Jalandhar Rural police have intensified its operations against anti-social elements after the enforcement of code of conduct with registration of 16 FIRs and arrest of 21 persons.Reiterating his resolve to ensure free and fair elections besides maintaining law & order in the district, SSP Satinder Singh said that elaborate security arrangements had been put in place for ensuring peaceful environment during the poll. He said that 27 companies of para-military forces had been demanded for Jalandhar rural, of which three companies were arrived. Besides, holding flag march in different areas, the SSP said that nakas had already been laid in across the district and checking of suspicious persons intensified. He said that there are 1190 polling booths in Jalandhar rural areas of which 249 were declared sensitive, where foolproof security system would be ensured.

Giving details about the recent actions against anti-social elements, Satinder Singh said that during recent days the rural police had registered 54 FIRs with arrest of 40 persons indulged in manufacturing of Lahan. The police have recovered 334,180 ML illicit liquor, 147750 ML foreign liquor, 2140 kg lahan & 2325545 litre lahan in separate operations, 16 drums, one gas cylinder and two illegal liquor furnace and psychotropic substances in large number was recovered. He said that preventive actions had been initiated against 257 persons while arrested nine proclaimed offenders. He said that out of total 8473 licensed arms more than 95 percent had been got deposited whereas the remaining ones would also be taken soon.Further pointing out, Satinder Singh said that a special drive was launched in the Mand areas of Shahkot, Phillaur, Nakodar, Kartarpur and Adampur areas to nab those indulged in manufacturing lahan from January 21, which resulted in huge recovery of Lahan.  In a fervent appeal to the people, the SSP said that people should report any suspicious activities and persons so that the law and order situation could be maintained especially in view of elections.
