Raising a clarion call to preserve the national resources Mr. Surjit Singh Rakhra today urged the masses to use the natural resources with utmost care and precision. He said that this is high time to realize the importance of god given treasure of natural resources and make their use judiciously in order to save the earth and the mankind. Mr, Rakhra expressed these views while taking part in a regional review meeting of Northern States for integrated watershed management programme of water conservation department under ministry of rural development, GOI. Besides Punjab States of Haryane, himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Uttarkhand participated in this meeting.
Rakhra assured the meeting that the Punjab is fully committed to implement the integrated watershed management programme. He said that this project is a very crucial for Punjab as it is a mainly agrarian state with estimated 80 % of its land under cultivation. He said that the ground water in Punjab is fast depleting and the land is becoming in fertile. He said that this project would be beneficial foe the conservation of ground water soil & forest. Mr. B B Srivastva, Secretary soil conservation Department GOI, Dr, Savita Anand, joint Director Soil conservation department GOI, Mr, M S Sandhu, FCRD, Dr. S. Karuna Raju, Director rural development & Panchyat, Punjab Bureaucrats from different states were present in the meeting.
